Dictionary: F Major Pentatonic Scale


The F major pentatonic scale is convenient to use for improvising solos and composing melodies over an F major chord progression, especially if you are unsure whether to use the Lydian, Ionian, or Mixolydian mode at any given moment.  It's almost foolproof in that manner.

Dictionary: F Major Scale


From this one-flat scale, we can derive F Ionian, G Dorian, A Phrygian, Bb Lydian, C Mixolydian, D Aeolian, and E Locrian.  In the table below, the chords to the left work very well with this scale, but you'll get a bit more adventurous as you go to the chords on the right:
